Lessons From A Feline Zen Master

If the sun should put itself on display after spending much of its time hiding behind a dark and gloomy sky, make your way outside, find a stream of light and turn your face right towards it. Soak in the simple joy and warmth of sunlight. Stay unmoving in that miraculous sunbeam for several minutes or until you fall asleep.

If your favorite earplug is tossed on the kitchen floor before you, allow the thrill of its wobbly landing to send you into full animation. Give in to your playful instincts and pounce with gusto on the opportunity to roll and paw and hunt that green mystery shaped treasure to its death.

This much exertion will tap your energy reserves. You must recharge. Absolute surrender to relaxation is required. Curl up, or upside down, in any location that suits your fancy and then let go of the world around you and sleep like it's the best thing that has ever happened to you.

Should you be so lucky as to be shown even the slightest bit of affection, express your gratitude immediately, sometimes even preemptively. A soft rumbly purr will do, if you are of the human persuasion a smile or even words expressed should suffice. Take the time to relish in the love you feel, don't hold back. Stop in your tracks if a gentle head rub is offered and maybe even snuggle up and stay for a while.

Surrender to your curiosity. If something sparks your interest but it seems out of reach, climb for it. It is worth it to explore the world around you and discover any potential joy that could be waiting for you.

Sometimes, life takes a swerve toward the unpleasant. It's ok to speak up and voice your displeasure. But always remember, this too shall pass.

Life is full of simple pleasures. Seek them out and relish them. And never forget the value of a good morning stretch.
